Carlsbad, House Felix Zawojski

Beauty on the colonnade

KV, Dům Felix Zawojski

Karlovy Vary representative house Felix Zawojski is an extravagant building, whose facade with non-traditional metal elements is worth seeing. Wooden windows of the Trustav brand beautified the overall appearance, with respect to the original windows. It is the historical and heritage zones that are the dominant feature of Trustava, and this slatted display on the colonnade confirms it.

Location

The terraced three-storey house, located in Tržiště Street No. 29/9, is one of the purest examples of floral art nouveau in Karlovy Vary. The house stands on the bank of the river Teplá. Both facades, both the street facing Tržiště and the back over the river (can be seen from Vřídelní Street), show a stylistic unity in the architectural elements of the facade, in the plastic decoration, the iron grills of the balconies, the shape of the windows and the roof structures. The interior equipment is also stylish.

History

The house was built in the years 1899–1901 according to the project of the architect Karel Haybäck by the Karlovy Vary company Karel Heller. In 1910, an elevator was built in the building, the first elevator in a town house in Karlovy Vary. In the competition for the best building and project of the Karlovy Vary region in 2006-2007, the Zawojski house won first place in the jury’s evaluation.
